Engaging in ideas of urban play and public art, S. Pointe & Co. Inc., the City of Edmonton and Nuit Blanche partnered to present IMPULSE+LOOP, an illuminated interactive urban art playground for Edmonton’s first Design Week in the Quarters Downtown. The Quarters hosts the new Kinistinâw Park and the Armature –a pedestrian and bike friendly four-block promenade to a celebrated river view on Jasper Avenue.  The partners were keen to explore and activate this new downtown green space with contemporary art programming that is engaging to a wide-ranging public. IMPULSE+LOOP invited Edmontonians to to PAUSE and PLAY in the Quarters, potentially uncovering the Armature as a new outdoor event space in Edmonton. Attendance reached a whopping 14,000 visitors.

Designed by architects Lola Sheppard and Mason White and first unveiled at Montreal’s Luminothérapie Festival 2015, IMPULSE travelled to Chicago, Boston, London, Brussels and Jerusalem. Designed by Montreal based EKUMEN, and unveiledthis year, LOOP is just beginning its international tour with its next stop in Switzerland.
